Kernersville wildlife control tip of the month:

How to keep raccoons out of my garbage cans

Raccoons are scavenger by nature and they do their dirty tricks at night time. They will come out of the den and look for food, regardless of what they can find in the Kernersville animal control trash bins. When the homeowners leave the place the trash in the bins will be scattered and the lid will not block the scent of the food from the raccoons that actually live in the woods. They will follow the scent to the can and leave the plastic trash bags and eat what is in it. But there are Kernersville pest control ways to deter them from scavenging in your property in various ways.

Keep the trash in in a locked place like shed
The garage is just the best place to keep your trash bins when night comes if you want to secure them from the raccoons. You just need to park the bins in the garage or in the shed and then close the door. When morning comes, you can put it back outside again, so that the garage or the shed will not smell bad.

Tie the lid
If you will keep on leaving your Kernersville animal trapping trash bin outside, you must secure the lid in a tight manner over the trash bags. It means that the bags cannot be piled up high enough against each other. You must be careful in securing the lid onto the can. You can use the bungee cord, wrap the cord over the lid and then tie it to the handles on every side of the can. This way, the raccoons cannot life the lid open to get food. You can also use chains to lock it or rope. If there are no chains or ropes available, you can just place a heavy object on top of the Kernersville wildlife removal lid to keep it close.

Christmas lights
Raccoons are said to be against the light, so having flashing lights can help in driving them away. Flashing lights can help in deterring them. You can just use the old Christmas lights that you have used last Christmas or better yet, don’t remove them anymore and keep them all year round. Who knows, it might be of help to you to completely ward off these foes.

Repellents
You can also use Kernersville exterminator raccoon repellents like ammonia and moth balls. Some say that they do not like the smell of moth balls and ammonia, so they will not come back again if these agents are in the trash.
